The Good, The Bad, and The Civilian: A Veteran’s Post-Service Experiences

Introduction

I figured I would start my first rant as more of an informative, who is Goat post.  You might very well be able to relate to some or all of my posts, but getting to know the man behind the rant can help really send it home.

First of all, I grew up lowerish class, appreciated everything I had and never really expecting much.  I also grew up with my mother, working a full time job, cooking all meals, doing all the cleaning, raising me and paying half of the entire household bills, regardless of having a permanent boyfriend living with us from age 5-17.  From my mother I learned to take care of myself and work hard and try to never let anything get you down.  I also learned that nothing is impossible as I watched her growing up continue to advance her career to no limits, while taking care of an entire household.  From the Male influence in my house growing up, I learned very little except how to not be anything like him.

Those influences have carried with me though my relationships, my careers and just life in general. I always aim to give 100% at my place of work, which ironically these days can look like 130% compared to others.  I always aim to keep my family happy and pay attention when they are not, to try and change it.  I also do my best to treat everyone around me with honesty and respect, which granted the honesty part can sometimes backfire.  Some people love that you are always honest, while others would prefer the watered down truth.

Like a cliché love story, I married my high school sweetheart, and have been married for over 20 years now.  We have one daughter together, who is both amazing and a teenage pain in the ass.

In my past I’ve ran a lawn mowing service group as a kid, worked in fast food, was a mechanic in the Army for 10 years, worked in a body shop, was a warehouse forklift driver, helped run a newspaper printing machine, remodeled retail stores, ran a small post office, and currently have been doing various forms of tech support for the past 10+ years.

I have also been playing video games since the ages of Atari, with current favorites being MMOs and Survival games.

In my spare time, I am restoring a 66 C10 pickup, running RUM-gaming, playing/collecting board games and enjoying time with my family as often as possible.

Mentally, I have been diagnosed with PTSD and nothing else, but I consider myself to be a logical overthinker.  I find it hard to process things that don't make logical, or efficient sense.  I tend to ask a lot of clarity questions, which help me process but can make me challenging to deal with sometimes.

All that being said, I think a lot, and over think a lot and process things from as many angles as possible a lot, and thought it would be fun to put some of those thoughts down as rants or discussions to share with everyone.  So stay tuned at least once a month, for: The Good, The Bad, and The Civilian: A Veteran’s Post-Service Experiences
